Hi Andrea – thanks for this! I just tried to subscribe via your ‘Get updated by email’ feedburner opt in box on the right, but got an error message saying ‘The feed does not have subscriptions by email enabled’ – thought I’d best let you know
Whups! Thanks.
Big thanks Andrea, I haven’t used MU for about 18 months, so I will be looking forward to using this on Sunday.

hey, I gotta do something over the holidays, right?
Hi Andrea,
I have now spend pretty much two days trying to set up our server for the Multi Site, but I can not seem to figure it out. I have a guy here who knows WordPress inside out, but like me, know very little about Apache.
Perhaps this is really simple, but I can’t seem to find any info clear enough for me to understand.
Maybe you could help me?
Here is the scenario:
I’m on a Dedicated Virtual Server on Mediatemple and I have root access.
I have set up two domains via Plesk: maindomain.com and seconddomain.com
maindomain.com has WordPress installed on it and should serve both sites.
We did all the set up as instructed, but how can we make the seconddomain.com use the WordPress installation on maindomain.com?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you.
Can I use single wordpress multisite installation to create and manage several websites of top level domens (example.com) without additional installation wordpress to each domen?
Instead of subdomens I want domens =)
I tried to change settings of one subdomen to domen name, then added rule^
ServerAlias *.domain.com
ServerAlias *.newdomain.com newdomain.com
I have got 5 websites on one IP
That’s what the domain maping plugin is for – so you can have top level domains.
THANK YOU so much for sharing this amazing resource!!
Helped me solve some nagging questions, and I’m not an advanced WP user by any means. It’s such a relief now to feel like my installation is finally complete.
hi andrea
nice to see you again – you’ve helped me on studio press forum
ive installed mutlisite and hav added the main sites I want in my network
im a bit stuck on why the main site is called (/) ‘my blog’ and where i can change this
Im not sure if Im not meant to use this site? If I can and its the landing site I will be promoting how do I change what its called?
Andrea, you are the best ever !!!!
Your ebook is amazing !!!!
I’m a new fan !!!!
I guess this is more asking an opinion. Our existing site has all the authors on the one site. They want to redesign the site and have each author’s area more personalized. It wouldn’t be a completely different look but have some visual changes. I asked previously about creating a network so that each author would have his/her own site and then each would have their own theme. Since we have several years of blogs, I’m thinking I’m gonna have to resync all images even though all the blogs will have the same urls. Would it work to keep as it and just have conditionals in the code to check author ID for image placement or do you think that coding would weigh the page down? Would it be more efficient, in the end, to network it out?
Thanks a lot for your generous help, you can’t imagine what it is to find this helpful hand when you’re stuck.
Thank you!
I have followed your instruction to implement multisite blog, but when I relog into the wordpress back end (after modifying .htaccess and wp-congig), my browser tells me that there is too much redirection (I translate from french). Can that have anything to do with the fact that I run wp in a previewdns mode (for now) ?
Thanks !
P
That is probably the cause, yes.
Hi Andrea , thnaks for your network install, it has helped a lot
One question though, in Worpdpress codes they mention the need to Create a directory for media file uploads
This directory must be writable by the web server, the same as your wp-content directory.
In you dox there is no reference to this, is it required?
Regards
John
Pretty sure I did mention you have to create the blog.dir folder.
(Well it will be my website once I’ve got it going)
Many many thanks for the how to enable multisite in wordpress.
None of the forum threads I could find solved my subsite wp-admin not found errors.
Your hint
AllowOverride FileInfo Options
was the key to my problem!
On my way to whatever the next issue is now.
Your website rocks! Thanks for sharing all the great info and tips!
